About Allison Does Yoga
Allison Does Yoga is brought to you by Allison van Camp, 200RYT certified yoga instructor, and nutritionist, who has been helping women to reach their health and wellness goals for the past 10 years.
Allison has a degree in dietetics and 9 years experience in health coaching. In addition to her education in western nutrition, Allison has spent considerable time studying Ayurveda and completed her Yoga Teacher Training at an Ayurvedic center. There, she was required to complete coursework on the tri-dosha system and learn about the Ayurvedic approach to diet and health. She has found that a combination of Eastern and Western philosophies is the most effective approach to helping clients build a wellness plan that helps them achieve their goals.
Allison has also worked in corporate nutrition, completing projects for a number of companies including Disney, Marks & Spencers, NPD Direct, Intercontinental, Sweet Connection Gluten Free Kitchen, and Kush Vegetarian Kitchen.
Good nutrition is critical when it comes to health and wellness, but physical fitness is the other half of the equation. You have to have both. For many years, Allison was a gym devotee, and at one point in her career, worked as a nutritionist and personal trainer for Lifetime Fitness. However, she found that many of the women she worked with struggled to lose weight despite burning significant calories during their PT sessions. She quickly learned that the intense physical activity led to them spending more time being sedentary outside of the gym due to fatigue, and more time eating due to increased appetite and the feeling that they could eat more since they "burned so many calories."
Allison found a better way through yoga. Yoga is not just stretching; it is so much more! it is a beautiful form of self love and an ancient practice that unites the body, mind and spirit. It teaches mindfulness and brings focus to the body's true needs, discouraging over-eating and decreasing cravings for unhealthy foods. As a yoga devotee for over a decade, Allison believes deeply in its ability to heal and transform both the physical body and the energetic body. Through working with women for many years, she has found that the combination of yoga, nutrition, and mindfulness is the key to health, happiness, and overall wellness.
